Background

Protection of the environment is a vital challenge globally. For the Middle East, the world’s driest region, the implementation of long-term solutions is imperative to ensure sustainable development.

The UAE is at the forefront of building a green economy, undertaking several initiatives in areas of strategic importance such as the diversification of energy resources; energy security; demand side management; waste management; and water conservation. Other GCC nations, such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and countries in the wider region such as Jordan and Egypt, are also pursuing mandates for cleaner energy production and more efficient usage.

As policies, governance and technologies evolve in line with widespread awareness about the finite nature of the earth’s resources, environmentally sustainable projects to produce power and water and recycle waste are inevitably becoming the standard, making this sector a growing opportunity for investment.
